The Geographical Society in the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina, as well as other similar professional organizations, has determined in its rules as its primary goal the advancement of geographical science. This task has two aspects. Since geography is crucial subject in secondary and secondary vocational schools, the improvement of geographical education is a very important, because, in addition to spreading geographical knowledge, it also presents basis for resolving the personnel issue.
In the first years of its work, the Society first gathered all geography teachers in Sarajevo, and provided them with assistance through professional lectures, conferences, excursions and various discussions. This form of work was later transferred to the centers of the Society’s branches in Banja Luka, Mostar and Tuzla.
The Geographical Society in the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina organized four congresses of geographers of Bosnia and Herzegovina in 2004, 2008, 2012 and 2016. By organizing conferences, seminars and publishing the scientific journal “Geographical Review”, the Society created an opportunity for its members and other geographers to research a wide range of geographical issues primarily related to the territory of our state, Bosnia and Herzegovina, but also provided opportunities for publishing papers related to other fields, as well as all types of papers that are of general interest for geographical science.
