/  First Study Cycle

The study program in the first cycle of studies at the Department of Geography of the University of Sarajevo – Faculty of Science according to the Bologna system of education began in the academic year 2005/2006. The first cycle of studies at the Department of Geography lasts four academic years, i.e. 8 semesters and upon its completion, a total of 240 ECTS credits are acquired. One study year is organized into two semesters (winter and summer) and lasts one academic year (with a one-month break during August). At the end of one study year, a total of 60 ECTS credits are acquired, i.e. 30 ECTS per semester.

Study programs in the first cycle of studies of the Department of Geography are organized in the following three study fields:

  • Geography in education,
  • Regional and spatial planning,
  • Tourism and environmental protection.

The study program of the Geography in education is adjusted to the education and preparation of students for pedagogical work in primary and secondary schools in Bosnia and Herzegovina. At the end of the first cycle of Geography in education, the title of Baccalaureate of Geography-Geography in Education is acquired. Baccalaureate of Geography-Geography in Education is qualified for independent leading the educational process in primary and secondary schools in all subjects belonging to the main field of geography.

Baccalaureate of Geography-Geography in Education who have completed the first cycle of geography studies with an average grade during their studies higher than 8 /eight/C/ have the opportunity to participate in the instructional-scientific process as an assistant at higher education institutions that offer the study of geography in the first cycle of studies.

The study program of the first cycle of studies in the field of regional and spatial planning is adjusted to the education and preparation of students for work in the fields of regional and spatial planning. At the end of the first cycle of studies in regional and spatial planning, the title of Baccalaureate of Geography-Regional and Spatial Planning is acquired. Baccalaureate of Geography-Regional and Spatial Planning is trained for teamwork in various stages of preparation, development and revision of spatial and regional plans in the area of physical and social-geographic bases of regional and spatial plans.

Baccalaureate of Geography-Regional and Spatial Planning who have completed the first cycle of studies with an average grade during their studies higher than 8/eight/C/ have the opportunity to participate in the instructional-scientific process as an assistant at higher education institutions that offer the study of geography and regional and spatial planning in the first cycle of studies .

The study program of the first cycle of studies in the field of tourism and environmental protection is adjusted to the education and preparation of students for work in the fields of tourism and environmental protection. Upon completion of the first cycle of studies in tourism and environmental protection, the title of Baccalaureate of Geography-Tourism and Environmental Protection is acquired. Baccalaureate of Geography-Tourism and Environmental Protection is professionally trained for teamwork in the identification and valorization of physical and social-geographic potentials in all phases of tourism planning, in the identification and valorization of tourist potentials in all phases potentials in all phases of creating tourist development strategies, in the organization of all phases of tourist trips in the country and abroad (especially in the presentation of tourist resources), in the creation and propaganda presentation of attractive tourist motives (in printed and electronic versions), in component and complex program research of physical-geographical and social-geographical elements and factors for the assessment of the quality of the environment and numerous other tasks related to the above areas.

Baccalaureate of Geography-Tourism and Environmental Protection who have completed the first cycle of studies of geography with an average grade during their studies higher than 8/eight/C/ have the opportunity to participate in the instructional-scientific process as an assistant at higher education institutions that offer the study of geography in the field of tourism and protection environment in the first cycle of studies.
