The scientific field of Social Geography unites a large number of theoretical and applied scientific disciplines that, as their object and subject of study, treat a very wide area of economic, demographic, social, cultural and other related processes and phenomena in society.
The modern scientific and research focus is on studies in the fields of Economic Geography, Demogeography, Urban Geography, Political Geography, Social Geography, etc. In the curriculum of all three study areas and all three study cycles of the Department, there is a large number of teaching subjects that arose from the object and subjects of study from the previously mentioned scientific disciplines. In recent times, new subjects have been introduced into the teaching and research process in accordance with the development tendencies of contemporary geography.
The home area of Social Geography of the Department of Geography of the Faculty of Science and Mathematics was determined by the Decision of the Senate of the University of Sarajevo, number: 0101-I-1569/08 dated 05/14/2008. of the year on determining the core areas and core subjects of higher education institutions of the University of Sarajevo. Subject disciplines were additionally supplemented by decisions of the Senate of the University number: 01-38-2386/10 dated 14.07.2010, 01-6605/16 dated 26.10.2016. and 01-6075/17 from September 27, 2017. and the decisions of the Faculty of Science Council.
