The study program in the second cycle of studies at the Department of Geography according to the Bologna system of education began in the academic year 2008/2009. The second cycle of studies at the Department of Geography lasts for one academic year, i.e. 2 semesters (winter and summer) and upon its completion, a total of 60 ECTS credits are acquired, i.e. 30 ECTS per semester.
Study programs in the second cycle of studies of the Department of Geography are organized in the following three study fields:
- Geography in education,
- Regional and spatial planning,
- Tourism and environmental protection.
The study program of the geography in education in the second cycle of studies is adjusted to the education and preparation of students for professional and scientific work in educational system in the field of geography, as well as for pedagogical work in primary and secondary schools in Bosnia and Herzegovina. At the end of the second cycle of geography in education, the title of Master of Geography (MA)-Geography in Education is acquired.
In addition to independently leading the educational process in primary and secondary schools in all subjects belonging to the main field of geography, MA of geography-Geography in education is trained to participate in all activities of team development and revision of curricula for primary and secondary schools, participation in the creation and revision of curricula programs in all subjects belonging to the main field of geography, advisory and supervisory activities to improve the educational process in geography conducted by relevant ministries and institutions, as well as participation in the process of professional evaluation of textbooks and manuals for all subjects belonging to the field of geography.
Master of Geography (MA) who have completed the second cycle of geography studies with an average grade during their studies higher than 8 / eight / have the opportunity to participate in the instructional-scientific process as an assistant / senior assistant at higher education institutions that offer a major in geography in the first cycle of studies.
The study program of the second cycle of studies in the field of regional and spatial planning is adapted to the education and preparation of students for professional and scientific work in the fields of regional and spatial planning. At the end of the second cycle of studies, majoring in regional and spatial planning, the title of Master of Geography (MA), majoring in regional and spatial planning, is obtained.
Master of Geography, specialization in regional and spatial planning, is trained to lead and / or participate in teams in various stages of preparation, development and revision of regional and spatial plans, for advisory activities during the implementation of regional and spatial plans within relevant ministries and institutions, to participate in the process of expert evaluation of regional and spatial plans as well as numerous other tasks in the mentioned areas. Master of Geography (MA), specialization in regional and spatial planning, who have completed the second cycle of studies with an average grade during their studies higher than 8 / eight / have the opportunity to participate in the teaching process as an assistant / senior assistant at higher education institutions that offer a major in geography and regional and spatial planning in the first cycle of studies.
The study program of the second cycle of studies in the field of tourism and environmental protection is adapted to the education and preparation of students for work in the fields of tourism and environmental protection. Upon completion of the second cycle of studies, majoring in tourism and environmental protection, the title of Master of Geography (MA), majoring in tourism and environmental protection, is obtained. Master of Geography, specialization in tourism and environmental protection, are trained for management and / or teamwork in various stages of preparation, development and revision of tourist destination development plans, for management and / or teamwork in creating tourism products of a given tourist region or tourist area, for independent scientific research work in the field of identification and valorization of natural and socio-geographical potentials in all phases of tourism planning, for advisory and supervisory activities in order to implement plans and strategies for tourism development and their implementation within the competent ministries and institutions.
Additionally, they are trained for participation in the process of professional evaluation of spatial planning documentation related to tourism, for research, advisory and supervisory work in the field of sustainable use of natural and social resources within the competent ministries and institutions, for research, advisory and supervisory work in the field protection from all forms of natural disasters and catastrophes and numerous other jobs in the above areas.
